Congratulations to Glenn and commiserations to Howard, but what a great night of entertainment.
Thanks to everyone who braved the cold and supported the Bonfire Night Barnby Burger Challenge. In particular to the chefs Glenn and Howard who donated the burgers. To Les, Derick and the ‘BBC’ commitee who organized the event, along with the village hall committee, the parish council, and all the volunteers who donated their time/food/drink/raffle prizes. Thanks also to Willow Tree Cottages B&B and The Willow Tree Pub for the use of their car parks and to the Jukes family for allowing the use of their field for the launch of the fireworks.
£1,030 was made on the night. When added to the £542 raised online, £500 donation from Cllr Maureen Dobson County Council fund and £150 donations to the Parish Council , the total reaches the magic £2,200 target which is fantastic news!
A response is now awaited from the Community Heartbeat Trust about next steps and installation of a defibrillator in the phone box.

Barnby villagers Paul & Janine Stanley and Clem Lee completed their Calling All Saints cycle challenge last weekend.
The route took them to all 30 All Saints churches in the Nottinghamshire & Southwell Diocese through challenging weather as well as terrain. They cycled just over 80 miles on rainy Friday, 56 miles on windy/squally Saturday and 60 miles on sunny Sunday – a total of 196miles (316km)
The team would like to thank Les Chaplin for his help collecting and dropping them off with their bikes. Derick Parker, for the loan of his trailer and Steve & Elaine Beeching for printing their team jerseys at no charge.
Finally the team would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has given their time, encouragement and support in making this challenge a success!

Donations are still coming in and it’s going to be close but it looks hopefully like the team may hit the magic figure of £1000 donations received with a portion of offline donations being also eligible for gift-aid. Please be aware that the current route 41 service operated by Nottsbus will cease this weekend 30/07/2016.
(PC Coaches route 47 to and from Lincoln is currently unaffected and continues to run as normal)
A new route 341 service operated by Travel Wright, via Fernwood and Balderton with reduced times on Mon/Wed/Fri will commence from 01/08/2016. There will no longer be a Saturday bus service.

A team of 3 Barnby villagers, Paul & Janine Stanley and Clem Lee, will be hoping to complete a charity cycle challenge to raise funds for All Saints church over 3 days from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st August.
The “Calling All Saints” challenge, will involve cycling to every All Saints only dedicated church in the Nottinghamshire/Southwell Diocese of which there are 29 in total.

Yvonne has now retired as warden after 25 years. Her hard work, dedication and wealth of knowledge have been invaluable, and the mainstay of our church in Barnby. Yvonne has been on the PCC for over 50 years, and fortunately for us all, will still be a PCC member to guide and advise us.
The last eighteen months have been particularly difficult because of the theft of lead, and Yvonne has spent many hours on the internet, trawling through grant application sites and writing letters. Through her efforts, we have received £25,850 in grant aid – almost a third of the total money that was needed. We are pleased to be able to relieve Yvonne of some of the practical duties of being Church Warden, but also very glad that she will still be there in a “consultancy” role to keep us on track, so that we can try to maintain the same high standards and smooth running of All Saints that Yvonne has always been so dedicated to.
The roof is finished at last. The total cost has been just over £80,000 (excluding VAT which we are able to reclaim), made up of:
The support to enable us to achieve this has been phenomenal for a small community. People have been extremely generous in their support to make sure that this centuries old building lives on at the heart of the village. Here’s how the money was raised:

Funds are still needed for repairs to the inside of the church and for ongoing maintenance as the church funds have been used up. There are some ideas for future fundraising currently under discussion, but in the meantime the next coffee morning fundraiser is at Barnby House on 5th July from 10am to 11.30am, see the events calendar for more information.
Well it rained just a bit! But thankfully not for too long and it certainly didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits at Saturday’s village get together.
Congratulations to Adam and Mary who won the child and adult home made crown competitions, to Charlotte who won the ‘guess the cake weight’ competition and Carina who won the skittles.

It was lovely to see so many villagers coming together, newcomers and old timers alike. The event wasn’t meant primarily as a fundraiser, but despite this a fantastic £763 was raised on the day which will be split between our 2 community buildings, the church (75%) and the village hall (25%).
